An intensive one day exploration of Wikidata to globally share and collaborate on cultural data.
Cultural institutions, like archives, museums and libraries, often create their own own metadata of their collections which they would like to make available for reuse. They would also like to empower the crowd to complete missing or correct the data. Current solutions, like offering an API, do not support this. This is why Wikidata could be helpfull, it offers a sustainable solution to share and collaborate on large amounts of data.
Sebastiaan ter Burg, founder of Circular Content, developped and provided for an intensive one day course for professionals in the cultural sector to get hands on experience with wikidata and to determine the chances for their organisations and data collections. He was assisted by several Wikidata volunteers for the hand-on training and to explain what data they would like to receive from cultural institutions.
Maarten Dammers, an avid Wikidata volunteer, explains what he uses cultural data for and how he would like to see that galleries, libraries and museums would make their data available for reuse.
